Hue was the capital of Vietnam until 1945 and the old city is surrounded by a huge wall, almost 10 kilometers in circumference, six meters high, 21 meters thick with 10 entrances. For defense, there are 24 bastions on the top of the walls that surround it. Construction of the Citadel started in 1805 and was completed in 1832. If I remember correctly, this is one of the outer gates.
