Hugh Thompson, an American helicopter pilot, managed to save some of the civilians that day and is considered a hero by many and rightfully so. He has been back to the site and is mentioned frequently in the museum. A good book on his story is "The Forgotten Hero of My Lai: The Hugh Thompson Story" by Trent Angers.
