Chinese Assembly Hall in Hoi An. Hoi An was a port city dating back the the 1600s. Somehow it managed to avoid being damaged by French or American warfare and is well preserved, like a Vietnamese Charleston. Japanese and Chinese merchants stayed on waiting for the tides to change for the return trip home. Eventually they established permanent homes here.
